The Fire Chief of the Nucla-Naturita Fire Protection District (Colorado) Chief Chester Riley died in the Line of Duty from a heart attack. On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Chief Riley responded to the scene of an automobile accident, and while at the incident, he experienced a heart attack and died in the Line of Duty. That district is a community on Colorado’s Western Slope around 2 hours south of Grand Junction, and Chief Riley’s district spans a large swath of rural land.

Governor of Colorado Jared Polis ordered flags to fly at half-mast in honor of Riley. This flag order was stacked on the existing order honoring victims of the King Sooper’s shooting in Boulder. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In peace.
